Coastline Pizza

1720 Houston Ave. | Houston

For Armando DiMeo, pizza is a family affair. He grew up around an Italian restaurant his family owned in Deer Park. He has fond memories of eating pizza nightly during extended trips to Italy.

While his love of pizza is rooted in tradition, he’s paving his own pizza way as the owner and founder of Coastline Pizza.

According to the restaurant’s website: “The name Coastline was crafted by combining the pizza slang definition (the exposed sauce between end of cheese and beginning of crust,) and by the origin of our two styles of pizza from the Texas and Neapolitan coast.”

DiMeo’s chef is a friend he’s known since fifth grade. Together, they’re delighting customers with neapolitan pizza and their signature Texas style grilled pizza.

Gold Tooth Tony’s

1901 North Shepherd Dr. Unit 4 | Houston

Anthony Calleo got his start in the pizza business with the Pi Pizza food truck. Always a pizza fan, Calleo decided he needed to learn how to make his own favorite kind... Detroit-style.

Now he’s serving it at his restaurant Gold Tooth Tony’s and partnering with other Houston-area chefs to come up with a new flavor of Detroit-style pizza each month.

Calleo shared the science behind creating a perfect, square pizza in a pan and why the sauce doesn’t go on until the very end in this “Eat Like a Local” episode.
