HOUSTON – Being colorblind affects at least one in 12 men, one in 200 women. This means several hundred thousand Houstonians don’t see like the rest of us.
Colorblindness is typically something people just live with, without issues. Although, there’s always a curiosity: what do other people see? Is it worth buying special glasses to see color? Would it be easier to do your job or match clothes?
Now colorblind patrons at the Color Factory, located in Upper Kirby, can borrow specialty glasses and see color in a new way.

These are glasses anyone can buy online and see the world in all shades, but many people choose not to purchase them on their own because they can come at a high price, roughly $300.
Do they even work?!
“They definitely work!” Daniel Rodriguez said in amazement when he put the glasses on for the first time.
“I could see it, but I couldn’t see this much distinction before this,” explained Robert Garcia.
Tina Malhotra, Color Factory CEO, said they’re able to loan patrons use of the glasses through a partnership with EnChroma.
“Color factory is really taking a progressive stance towards accessibility and inclusivity, and this is just one of the ways that we’re doing that, by making all of the colors, visible to our colorblind guests,” Malhotra said.

“These really help me to see the different kinds of tones,” Kate Stacy explained.
