Justin Verlander slightly behind schedule as Spring Training begins

Astros righthander dealing with minor setback in lead up to camp

WEST PALM BEACH – Astros righthander Justin Verlander has arrived in West Palm Beach for the start of another Spring Training camp and while he will be on the field for drills and conditioning, he is easing back into his throwing routine after a slight setback recently.

Verlander is not concerned and told reporters Wednesday that the situation has resolved itself.

“Recently there was a time I put the ball down and picked it back up and my shoulder didn’t feel so great,” said Verlander inside the clubhouse. “So I had to take a step back and just be diligent about my buildup.”

“I’ve always somebody who luckily who could pick up a ball and start throwing it but this time is wasn’t quite as easy so had to slow down a little bit. I always like to give myself as much rest as possible. So slowing down has put me a little bit behind.”

The Astros pitchers and catchers open Wednesday morning and full squad workouts begin on Monday.
