Nearly 12″ of rain falls north of Houston: Here’s what else to expect Friday

Flood watch in place through Friday afternoon

Thursday Morning:

We tracked extremely heavy rainfall north of I-10 this morning. Some areas northeast of Huntsville around Lake Livingston have seen close to 12″ of rainfall overnight. This is causing major flooding concerns as this same area saw nearly a foot of rainfall earlier this week.

Our rivers will need to be monitored very closely. The Trinity River has been extremely swollen and causing major flooding along the east fork of the San Jacinto. You can see our stream status below, or check out our Flood Tracker app.

This Evening:

The heavy rain from Thursday is over and we should see a quiet evening and overnight. However, we’re not done with the rain just yet, periods of heavy rainfall will be possible through Friday afternoon.

Flood Watch:

A flood watch is in place through 1PM on Friday. Please stay weather aware. Our ground is saturated so rainfall is slow to drain. This is leading to street flooding. Excessive runoff will bring additional rises in rivers, creeks and streams.

Friday’s Forecast:

Friday once again will bring storm chances. The highest storm chance looks to be around lunch time into the early afternoon, with some of the same areas that could see another couple of inches of rain.

Saturday’s Forecast:

We are forecasting a line of showers and storms to push through very early Saturday morning. This looks to be the last of the heavy rainfall this week, although some afternoon showers are possible Sunday.

There is a low flood threat for our storms Saturday. The main concern will be for locations that have already seen a tremendous amount of rainfall this week.
